My philosophy in life is "everything happens for a reason" I don't always know the reason, and I don't question it either, I am an accepting sort of person, maybe that is why I just accepted the advice for so long that was neither helpful nor making me better, I accepted that the doctors, and dietitians knew their stuff! and why not they are the ones with the fancy letters behind their names. Towards the end of 2012, my doctor informs me " the medication you are on is not working, your pancreas is shot and the next step is to go on to daily insulin injections" I was distraught the last thing I wanted was insulin injections, it is not the fear of needles so much, it is what I had learnt about the progression of Type 2, once on injections, you don't have to worry, what you eat (so the doctor tells me) but you wont lose weight and you wont actually get any better than you are at the onset of the injections, and there is no guarantee that you wont get worse and need more insulin as time goes on. I know I said I was an accepting type of person but I am not a defeatist, and I was not ready to give up on my health, and this is what I told the doctor, so after a long discussion we swapped the medications I was on to the another tablet, the doctor was not optimistic that my diabetic control would improve and I am sure he had the script pre-filled for the insulin ready for my next visit as I was walking out the door. Ok so you may not believe in fate, but my belief that everything happens for a reason, is my version of fate, and the fact that I had been looking into the whole "Virtual Gastric Banding by Hypnosis" and happened past True Nature Therapies on Victoria Street , only to see advertised out the front of the shop, "Lose Weight Through Hypnosis" so not letting the opportunity past, I went in and made inquiries, I met Julie Garlick, who assured me that she could help me with my health and weight problems. For reasons that I wont go into (not important now) Julie wasn't able to do the Virtual Gastric Banding, but she could do the hypnosis to lose weight, so I got all the information from Julie and went away to give it some thought. I had actually made up my mind that I was going to go through with the hypnosis, I had read stories where it had some wonderful results. It was also around this time that my sister in-law Maxine told me about the book "Sweet Poison - by David Gillespie" Maxine said after reading this book it was the first time she had lost weight and her husband Richard also lost weight, they were both looking really good, so I bought the 1st book and was hooked. While I was reading the book, I was having a " light bulb over the head type of moment" foods that had been suggested by the dietitians were full of sugar, even when I was on the Atkins diet I was still consuming too much sugar (mainly through the Atkins bars) but it was all making good sense to me, and I have to say the way David writes his books is in layman's terms easy to understand. When I was 15, my boyfriends Grandmother told me she had Sugar Diabetes, and even at 15 I understood that this meant she couldn't have sugar laden products, she didn't have low-fat foods either. Ancel Keys and his falsified studies on Saturated fats and Heart Disease in the early 70's has a lot to answer for but I will go into that more in another post, but what really annoys me more is why did they change the name of Sugar Diabetes to Type 2, and now some doctors are referring to Type 2 as Adult onset Diabetes, should stick to the name that describes the cause in the name, it is what it is "SUGAR DIABETES" anyway my interest in quitting sugar had been pricked and now I was reading books by David Gillespie and Sara Wilson and watching youtube videos from American doctors all anti sugar and promoting Low Carb/ Healthy Fats and they have the statistics and the studies to back up their claims, but all is ringing true to my ears.
