I have been promising to do a review for sometime now, I find it hard to find the time to read a book from front to end so I am still currently reading a couple that have been put on the back burner, but I do find I can squeeze in a movie or two between my regular series watching. Last night I watched a movie called "Fat Head" This is not a new movie it has been around for quite a while, 2009 in fact is the release date on the movie/documentary and I stumbled upon this movie by accident really, while doing my normal research I was intrigued that a comedian/ health book writer would have something to say about eating low carb and when the movie title was mentioned I went in search. I suppose because it is not a new title the movie is free to watch on YouTube, here is the link to go watch it now or after my review, _http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/fat-head/ The movie documentary goes for 1 hr and 45 minutes, I suggest you watch it to the end and even to the credits and listen to the words of the song playing the background it is very relevant, anyway Tom Houghton is calling bologna (Meaning bull shit. If someone is telling you something that sounds completely unbelievable or made up it is bologna) on the advice of the Medical researchers and the government that had us believing that "Saturated Fat" is bad and Low Fat is good, that we need carbohydrates and Cholesterol causes heart disease. At the beginning of this movie I was not sure I was on the same page of this bloke at all, I am so anti McDonald's so the thought of someone proving they could live on fast food (in particular Maccas) really didn't put me in the right frame of mind and I was calling bologna myself, but not far into the movie he was doing it in a sensible way (if there is such a thing?) he was keeping to a set amount of calories and set amount of carb intake, he was choosing diet sodas only occasionally having a dessert and not always eating the fries, but mostly what I think he was doing was disparaging the guy that made the film "Supersize me" Morgan Spurlock whom I believe was blaming McDonald's for forcing super sized portions onto the unsuspecting public, that is an even older movie 2004 and is also free to watch on YouTube if you want, and as much as I like the idea of turning people off McDonald's I don't think I will be watching that movie anytime soon. Fat Head was filled with some good information, plenty of Doctors calling Bologna on the same things I call bologna on, and I didn't know that the US government were responsible for McDonald's changing from cooking in Beef Tallow (saturated fat) to Trans Fats, that just, justifies my hate of McDonald's more, one doctor in particular "Dr Michael Eades" was one of the first people I researched who gave me the information I needed concerning Statin drugs, in fact I think this movie does outline all the important information that you need to make the choices about your own health, as Tom demonstrates in the movie by standing outside Maccas, no one dragged him inside and forced him to eat the food. Conclusion Tom lost weight and his cholesterol levels were better much to his doctors amazement when he looked at his diet for the month, the movie wont be winning any film festival awards anytime soon but the information was easy to understand (perhaps by the use of animation and illustrations) and the message was clear SUGAR is the culprit , Carbohydrates cause the inflammation that causes heart attacks and high cholesterol is not always as bad as the medical profession would have you believe, one woman states ("women with high cholesterol live longer") I wont be eating Maccas anytime soon (if ever) but the information in this movie was good, I would give this movie... 7.5/10 That was my first review, if you watch the movie because of my review please let me know. By the way I don't think this is a green light to eat McDonald's either Tom was just proving a point, and I still believe processed foods and fast foods are crap, and sugar free and vegetable juicing is the way to better health

Quite a few sites post recipes claiming they are sugar free, but in fact these recipes are only refined sugar free, and nearly all of them that claim to be sugar free still contain a sweetener of some description that is in fact just as bad as your humble white table sugar or worse, and it really makes me mad.
Why should I care? well I do care about the health of people, all people not just family and friends although they are on top of my care list, but I feel very strongly about the deceit, and the smoke and mirrors used by the government bodies, the health department and more than likely the group that mostly likely gains the most "the pharmaceutical big wigs" for years we have been feed a series of wrong information, about what our diet should be to have a long and healthy life. And then I see these posts of recipes touting "sugar free" recipes with yet more wrong information, and feel that people deserve to know all the facts so they can make a choice about their health. Shouldn't you be in charge of you? I know that I am in control of me, and it took me a long time to take charge, like everyone else I listened to the advice of the "health officials" but half of these "health officials" haven't been to college in over 30 years and the information in the last 30 years is WRONG! I do start to think that humanity is not that bad when I hear a reputable doctor say "I was wrong" or " the information to the public was wrong" either way they are far and few in between, but still it is promising that there are some that are opening their eyes and opening our eyes to the facts. But for every one person that divulges the truth about what is healthy, there are a dozen that will still try and pull the wool over your eyes. The good news is that more people are starting to cut the sugar down or out of their diet, and this is where I feel that to make the impact on your health that you deserve you need to know that although you have cut out the soft drinks that contain the 16 teaspoons of sugar, you may still think that your morning orange juice is ok? but no that has 14 teaspoons of sugar or more depending on your glass size, and it doesn't matter if you squeezed it at home fresh it is still full of sugar! not your refined white table sugar but it is full of "FRUCTOSE" the deadly component of refined white table sugar (which is made up of 50% Sucrose and 50% Fructose), have a look at the list below of the so called "Healthy Sugars" and a rule of thumb should be if it has the name "sugar" then it is sugar and avoid using it no matter what other fancy name they stick in front of it!
I sourced the image from I quit sugar! I recommend you visit this site for any information you may need to help you to quit sugar too! Calling it Juice fast week because there are two juice gurus holding a guided juice fast starting today, both English so you still have time to sign up, and hopefully you haven't eaten today or if you have start tomorrow! Now usually Joe Cross is my Guru on the Juices, I loved his movies "Fat sick and nearly dead" and he has a new movie out at the moment, I haven't watched it only the trailers, but it is more about getting kids to consume more vegetables, great concept and it is called the "kids movie". So I haven't given Joe the flick I just want to see if these other two Juicers have any other info to add to my bank of juicing knowledge, you can always learn something new right? anyway the first guy I signed up to do the 7 day budget juice fast with is "Natural Juice Junkie" Neil Martin, if you are new to juicing Neil sends you the list of juices for each day of the fast and each item on the list is linked to a video of how the make these juices, so he is helping you all the way, he provides a shopping list, and has already worked out how many apples you will need for the week along with celery cucumbers etc, keep in mind that the British have different names for some items like the Zucchini, in Britain it is called a courgette and as far as I know because of bloody cold storage, everything should be available, he calls it a budget juice fast, I think the reason is people complain that it cost too much in fruit and vegetables, but from experience I have found if fruit and vege is the only thing going in your basket for the week, it is not as dear as all the processed crap we tend to fill our trolleys with. If you are not committed to do this fast and you tend to look for excuses why you can't then don't do it because if you start with an negative attitude then you are setting yourself up to fail, but on the other hand, if this is the first time you have ever tried a juice fast keep an open mind and be positive, it is different for everyone, some people lose more weight than others even though they are drinking the same juice, I always keep in mind Joe Cross's mantra (80% vege to 20% fruit) mainly because everyone loves a fruit juice but without all the nutrients from the vegetables it is not going to provide your body with the same goodness. The second guy doing the guided Juice fast this week is Jason Vale, who also made a movie called the "Super juice Challenge" he also has several books, and I say good on him as he fixed himself first and then wrote about it to help everyone else, I kinda feel like that, I would love to see all my friends and family get healthy, and I know from experience that the quickest and easiest way is to venture on a Juice fast, and of course when ever I have an occasion or just decide to eat some solids or have a drink or two, I just put myself on a juice fast to get myself back on track or as Joe Cross calls it "a reboot" getting back to Jason Vale, I have followed his guided Juice fasts before, but I have varied my juices from his, as I am not sure if he is a 80-20 juicer or not, I will pay more attention this time around, Jason is excitable and when I watch his videos I always think that he would be a great salesman on the info commercials but in his defense he is trying to sell you on the whole Juicing lifestyle, (as well as flog his books) but you don't have to buy anything to join in or sign up to the guided juice fast, so in the words of Molly Meldrum ... "Do yourself a Favour" and start juicing! here is a link to Jason Vales Guided Juice Fast http://www.jasonvalesbigjuicechallenge.com/ And here is a link to Neil Martin's "The Natural Juice Junkie" So you choose I am going to be fasting for the next 7 days I will follow both of these gurus and keep you posted on who has the best info, I really think that all that matters is that you have a go, if you only manage 3 days at least that is 3 days of nutrients your body has received that it may not have received previously???
