A little over 5 weeks ago, when I returned to my blog for the 2nd time, I was going to endeavor to do a juice fast that would last until I left for my next cruise, (92 days) or lose 10 -12 kilos, what ever comes first.
Progress report, my weight is down 4.9 kilo, that is almost a kilo a week, although there was a major setback in the 5 week period, where we agreed to put lunch on for family and they didn't show up (as usual) anyway we hate waste so we indulged in (homemade pizza) and I gained back a fair bit, this is really what made me start to think about sustainability, it is one thing to have great success in juice fasting and losing all the weight you want, but when you begin to eat normal you gain it back, and as much as I love losing the weight, I do have the more important agenda of getting my blood sugars under control, pleased to say I have that down to 4.7 which I feel is great as I started at 12.6. So what have I done differently this time round? I still make my juices with mainly vegetable and very little fruit, generally apple and lemon only, but I have been turning these into smoothies, which if you remember my first ever juice fast we had one smoothie a week on a Sunday and we nick named our smoothie "Sunday Roast". To make my smoothie I use a green juice as the base then add a banana, some blue berries, protein powder and some cacao, if I don't have any protein powder I put a spoon of peanut butter (only the natural all peanuts nothing added kind) it does really taste like a chocolate milkshake, and it keeps me full for longer, I actually found after a week or two, of having these smoothies, I couldn't finish a full one and would put it in the freezer for when I was really hungry. I have also made pumpkin soup, pumpkin and parsnip soup and for about a week I was having scrambled eggs, just eggs no add ins, yesterday I found a recipe for a cheese quiche and I made this and it was very tasty and satisfying, so technically you couldn't call this a juice fast, as I am eating so I will call it a "Juice Fast Plus". I have another 51 days until we set sail and I will continue on this farce I mean fast , until I reach my goal, and if the weight loss hits a plateau I will just do the juice only thing for 3 -5 days to get it moving again. Something I have learn t this week from the "Diet Doctor" 5 mistakes made when going "Low Carb"'the no brainer was eating too many carbs Der!!!, but what I didn't know about the low carb bars, was they don't have sugar but do have sugar alcohols and this can raise blood sugar, so for you normal folk that don't have to worry about T2D, then I guess they are ok as they take away the hunger pangs, but are just another thing I have to avoid, :-( below is the diet doctor, another favourite on the Diet Doctor website is articles by Dr Jason Fung, here is the link to his short video on how to Maximize Fat Burning https://www.dietdoctor.com/how-to-maximize-fat-burning Well that is about all I have to say for this blog hope your having a good day , Keep Calm and Juice!
