The saying "Everything in Moderation" is my most detested saying, and I found an article that actually words it perfectly, so with a little cut and paste, here is my "plagiarized" rant...
There are certain sayings that are floating around out there that really drive me nuts. And the “everything in moderation” one is close to the top of the list. I’ve been out at social gatherings where there are foods that really wreck havoc on my body so I refrain (sugar, toxic oils and having diabetes) I don’t talk about it or make a stink about it, (yes I do ha ha) I just find what I can enjoy, express gratitude for it and enjoy. Inevitably, I’ll be minding my own business & someone will ask why I’m not having the cake or whatever it is that everyone is eating. When I politely share with them that eating it wouldn’t make me feel good, he or she will say to me, “ just go ahead & treat yourself. You can’t deprive yourself–everything in moderation, right?” Um…seriously? Would you tell an alcoholic that it’s okay to have “just one drink”? Or the recovering drug addict that just having one hit is ok? And what exactly am I depriving myself of?
Let’s face it–we are hardly a nation of people who do things moderately. It’s rarely just one cookie, one handful of chips or one glass of wine. And honestly, the stuff that people use that statement to justify eating usually isn’t even real food–they just want to feel better about the crap they are putting into their bodies. The funny thing about this is that, in most cases, if I were to suggest to the same person who said “everything in moderation” to incorporate some veggies into their life, to drink a small green smoothie daily or to moderately exercise they typically respond with “no way, I couldn’t do that”. Really? I thought “everything in moderation”?” Now, I am fully aware that I am a sugar Nazi and that certain foods make me rant more than others do. Sometimes, it’s a choice of eating shitty food that makes you feel bad or not eating it and feeling good. Welcome to life. The only thing I feel like I’m “depriving” myself of is all of the things I’ve listed above. Who wouldn’t want to deprive themselves of that? If you would like to read the unedited version of this "Everything in Moderation Bulls#%t" here is the link http://smartsexyliving.com/why-everything-in-moderation-is-bullst/ Anyway I have been waiting a long time to work the whole "moderation" crap into a post, I like how Heather says that people use "everything in moderation to justify eating crap (Not real food) and if you think I am joking about it not being real food, start reading some labels, go into the supermarket, pick up a packet of your "moderation biscuits" and read the label, after you justify that the sugar content is not that bad, look at the ingredients, without even knowing what you have picked up, I am betting there is at least 3 items you don't recognize as food items, also a couple of numbers thrown in, some toxic oil (even the baked not fried biscuits have some form of vegetable oil or seed oil) which we all know now you don't get oil from vegetables so it is manufactured oil, man made "NOT REAL FOOD!" I only wish I had a packet of biscuits in the cupboard so I could quote some of these non food items to prove a point, but my pantry is sugar free and crap free, I am like Heather, I like having my diabetes in check without a handful of pills daily, i like keeping my weight down, I like having more energy, and really I like feeling good within myself, so you can have your "in moderation" theory, although I have to say I haven't heard anyone say it to me lately, I wonder why ha ha. Eat real food people!
