By now you can see a pattern forming, I hear of a new diet craze and I try it, when the diet I am currently on starts to fail, or rather I fail at the diet for one reason or another. I now have a better understanding of the Atkins diet and it's similarity to the Dukan diet, both are low carb diets, and in the last couple of years I have learnt that Low Carb way of life is the silver bullet or the the magic pill that all the people in the know, will tell you doesn't exist. Anyway, my health wasn't getting any better and the doctor was not happy with my diabetic control so what did I have to lose by trying the Dukan diet, I still hadn't realised that what I needed was not another diet but a new way of eating that wasn't a diet but a way of life, but with the Dukan diet I did start to do some research and I started to focus more on my health than my weight, although I was still very unhappy with my weight. Terri has a wii, which has its benefits of keeping track of my weight for the last 7 years, although it is upsetting that the wii considers me to be obesse and not just overweight as it predicts from my height that I should weigh a little more than my 3 year old grandson, like Garfield says I am not overweight I am under tall. I commenced the Dukan diet when Andrew was away working, this made it a bit easier to have only protein for the first 10 days, with the exception of 2 tablespoons of natural bran, which latter I would make into biscuits that we (Andrew and I ) enjoyed with a cup of tea. How Dukan works PHASE 1: ATTACK. The Dukan Diet starts with a short, sharp Attack phase where you eat nothing but protein – just meat, fish, eggs and (unlike Atkins) no-fat or low-fat dairy products. This is the kick-start that gives you the initial, rapid weight loss (up to three kilograms in just five days), and sets the tone for the other stages of the plan. Stay on the Attack phase for one to 10 days depending on how much weight you have to lose. PHASE 2: CRUISE. This is the workhorse stage of the diet, where you alternate the pure protein days of Attack with days when you add a delicious array of unlimited salads and vegetables to your wide selection of meat, fish and no-fat dairy products. On Cruise, you can start a meal with a salad or soup, then follow it with meat or fish and vegetables. Most dieters lose up to a kilogram a week during the Cruise phase, and stay on it until they reach their target weight. I lost about 5 kilo on the Attack stage, but I was always hungry, and found I couldn't sustain the diet, I now know that Low- Fat is more harmful than good and when you introduce, carbs on this diet the weight comes back, I never made it past the cruise stage of this diet and lost interest as well, although I lost 5 kilos on the diet my diabetic control was still not good, I was still on my 7 tablets a day and I didn't feel good at all, I think there are only certain people that could live on protein only, I did read about a family that did just that even their two young sons ate nothing but red meat, here is the link to the story, http://news.softpedia.com/news/This-Couple-and-Their-Kids-Only-Eat-Beef-Don-t-Even-Add-Salt-or-Spices-480827.shtml By Christmas 2011, I wasn't on any diet, I was eating low fat as directed by the dietitian I was seeing at the time, I was doing 30 minutes of exercise on the Wii everyday, my weight was going up, my diabetic control was out of control, I even started to ask and research gastric banding, although the Dietitian didn't recommend it and told me some horror stories about failed operations to try and deter me, I started reading about virtual gastric banding through hypnosis, I was very interested.... next post Sugar Free
