Detoxing and Cleansing to me are buzz words, well they were until I went on my 28 day fast, and I actually felt cleansed and toxin free? so I guess you shouldn't knock it until you have tried it. I actually feel like my insides are cleaner! and one of things that changed in me besides losing weight and getting my medical numbers correct, was my sleeping patterns, it has changed (for the better)! for years I had been in a bad cycle of staying up to the wee hours of the morning and then not rising before 10 am the next day, and because my diabetes was out of wack , even on the medication, I never felt like I had any sleep at all, these days I wake up energized ready to start a new day, I am still not quiet sure how things work that early in the day but I am getting there. I have to say that I like feeling cleaner on the inside, and these days if I crave anything! I crave vegetable juice, on the days that I decide I will eat, I find it very hard to decide what it is that I want to eat. When I was on the 28 day fast I did crave eggs of all things, perhaps my body was saying it needed some B12, in fact if you were to give up eating and just juiced, "Turned Vegan" you would have to supplement your diet with B12, it is about the only thing you can't get from a good supply of vegetables, my doctor said he would be concerned about my calcium intake but here is a little chart of the vegetables that you get calcium from... I am surprised that my doctor didn't know that I could still get enough calcium from my vegetable juices, another reason why you should have more vegetables than fruit in your juice, I have Kale everyday and Broccoli and Brussels sprouts occasionally in my juices. But on the whole I didn't feel like I was lacking anything while on the 28 day fast, and I felt the best I have felt in about 20 years, and I am sure that I was also consuming more vegetable than I had ever consumed in those 20 year, I feel like a prospector that has just found gold, I have found the key to unlock my inner health. I am sure everyone knows you have to vegetables in your diet, but no one is actually eating enough vegetables to get all the nutrients that the body needs, you can how ever juice a whole bunch of kale and drink it and your body will absorb all the nutrients, but I challenge you to sit down to a meal with a whole bunch of Kale on your plate, if you cook the kale then you lose most of the nutrients through heat, and if you attempt to eat a whole bunch of kale raw in one sitting I doubt you could finish it. Another thing I have noticed lately is that I am wanting to spring clean my life and rid myself of everything I have hoarded over the last 20 years, I feel like I have a new lease on life and don't need stuff! Having said that, I still would rather give my stuff away than throw my stuff away, (to give is good for the soul) and a few weeks ago I cleaned the wardrobe out of all my fat clothes, that felt good, and I have started to go through other areas of the house, the kitchen cupboards had a big clean up a few weeks ago, could probably do round two and not miss anything, ha ha the main things getting used in the kitchen these days are the juicer and blender, so as long as I have those I can live without the rest, ha ha. I have moved onto other parts of the house that are a little harder to detox, somethings have to be pried out of my hands, and I seem to have made more mess with my piles of Keep, sort, give away, and throw away, and it looks like it is going to be a long process, but I know I am going to feel better when I am done. We all like our comfort zones and are very reluctant to give up anything we have become accustomed to, whether it be our favourite food, or a favourite toy from 50 years ago, or something someone you liked gave you (you have to keep that for the sentiment?) or just material things that you feel you need in your life. The first thing I had to give up that I loved was Chocolate and Ice Cream, (those two were my Achilles heal) and I don't miss it at all, haven't had ice cream for over 3 years now, (often wonder if I was still working at the ice creamery would I have still given up ice cream so easily?) We all have comfort foods, but when our comfort foods stop us from feeling comfortable in our own skins that is when it is time to detox and cleanse our bodies, take control of your health and how you feel, but why stop there detox and cleanse your life of "stuff"! make your comfort zone as clean as your insides are after a detox!
